Delphine Schwarze is a proud Yamatji Nhunda, Ngarlu woman from the small town of Mullewa, currently living on Noongar Boodja. Her ancestral lineage traces back along the Murchison River region, from Kalbarri to Northampton.

Her childhood was shaped by time spent on Country—adventuring through the bush, exploring local waterholes, and foraging for food from the land, including kangaroo, bardi grubs, emu, quondongs, sweet potato, bimba, and more. These lived experiences continue to influence and inform the stories shared through her paintings.

With a lifelong creative streak, Delphine began her journey as a self-taught contemporary Aboriginal artist in 2021, immersing herself in painting as a means of expression and connection.

Through her artwork, Delphine finds both solace and strength—expressing creativity while maintaining a deep connection to her cultural heritage. Each piece is a journey of storytelling, woven together like a yarn. To her, art is a powerful bridge between culture and the broader community, offering visual narratives that resonate with those drawn to the meaning and stories behind each work.

Inspired by the tradition of storytelling through patterns and designs, Delphine’s artistic journey continues to evolve. Her paintings provide a space for free expression while also serving as a vessel for sharing knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture.

Symbols, patterns, and messages intricately woven throughout her work convey values deeply important to her—family, nature, community, and a profound sense of connection.
